SGS Verified: Interface Cool Carpet™ Program
Modeling and off-setting the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of carpet.

SGS successfully verified Interface’s Cool Carpet program including the modeling of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the full life cycle of its carpet, and then off-setting those emissions through the retirement of an equivalent number of verified emission reduction credits.

Interface, Inc. is the world's largest manufacturer of modular carpet, which it markets under the InterfaceFLOR®, FLOR®, and Bentley Prince Street® brands. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, this billion dollar company has manufacturing locations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The Interface companies are committed to the goal of sustainability and doing business in ways that minimize its impact on the environment while enhancing shareholder value.

Interface and its stakeholders share a common concern for the environment with particular interest in mitigating climate change through the elimination of product-related emissions. They have addressed this concern by creating climate neutral products. The total GHG emissions created during the life cycle of the products (raw material acquisition, manufacturing, transportation, use and maintenance, and end-of-life disposition) are modeled using Life Cycle Assessment methodology adhering to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. These emissions are then neutralized through the purchase and retirement of an equivalent number of verified emission reduction credits. As a result of this program, a majority of Interface’s global product offering is climate neutral.

Based on the process and procedures conducted by SGS, there is no evidence that Interface’s GHG assertion for the period of July 2007 to December 2007 is not materially correct and is not a fair representation of GHG data and information. The life cycle assessment has been prepared by Interface in accordance with relevant best practice for life cycle assessments. The verification processes for Interface’s GHG inventory are based on ISO 14064-3 Guidelines. If you want to get specific information about the verification, please contact SGS Climate Change.
