Determination of the PDD (Validation)


1.1 Pre-Assessment (optional step to prepare for subsequent Validation)

  • Review of the draft PDD to confirm the proper use of the PDD template and ensure it is complete and transparent.
  • Review of the application of the baseline and monitoring methodology to see if all required information is provided.
  • Review of the project additionality.
    A report detailing findings will be provided.

1.2 Validation Assessment
Review and assessment of the assumptions of the Project Design Documents (PDD) including the monitoring plans and the environmental impact assessments.

  • International Stakeholder Consultation.
  • Preparation of Validation Checklist
  • Site Visit.
  • Validation Assessment:
    • Baseline Selection and Additionality
    • Application of Baseline Methodology and Calculation of Emission Factors
    • Application of Monitoring Methodology and Monitoring Plan
    • Local Stakeholder Consultation and Sustainable Development
  • Validation Findings
  • Technical Review and Validation Opinion (Unqualified/Qualified)
  • Registration with JI Supervisory Committee, if SGS issues a positive (ie. unqualified) validation opinion.

Please Note: As part of the registration, the project developer will need to pay the registration fee to the UNFCCC. SGS will advise you of the reference number to be used for the payment. The date of receipt of a request for registration is the date when the deposit of the registration fee has been received by the UNFCCC secretariat. The request for registration shall be made publicly available through the UNFCCC JI web site for a period of 45 days. Unless a request for review is received, the validation of the project activity is deemed final after 45 days.
