UPS carbon neutral

UPS carbon neutral offers a trusted program to help customers offset the climate effects of their shipping. Customers can select a variety of delivery services either on a contractual or transactional basis for which UPS will offset associated emissions.

SGS successfully verified the UPS carbon neutral systems and procedures against the criteria of: Transparency, Accuracy, Consistency, Completeness and Relevance and as constituting a reliable and robust process for; the determination of emissions to be offset, accounting of offsets, and the purchase and retirement of offsets associated with UPS carbon neutral services.

Emissions to be offset are calculated using UPS Carbon Footprint Analysis V2. This is a proprietary system for the modelling of emissions associated with UPS delivery services based on historical and projected data.

The UPS Carbon Footprint Analysis V2 has been verified by SGS to provide a reasonable level of assurance that historical data inputs, and the modelling process employed within the Carbon Footprint Analysis V2 and the resultant modelled emissions outputs are fairly stated for the following sources:

Scope 1:

  • Direct emissions from combustion of fuel in UPS operated ground vehicle fleet
  • Direct emissions from combustion of fuel in UPS operated aircraft
  • Direct emissions from stationary sources associated with UPS controlled facilities in the United States and Canada

Scope 2

  • Indirect emissions associated with purchased electricity in UPS controlled facilities globally

Scope 3

  • Combustion of fuel in ocean, air, rail and ground transportation, operated by third parties in providing delivery services to UPS
